A build of the game for internal use intended for testing the A-Life system.[reference 1]
Its main advantage is the presence of game locations that had never been shown before. The build also shows interesting lighting and weather settings and a fairly advanced NPC and monster behavior system for that time. Compared to build 1935, it differs by having “alternative” versions of locations and lacking developed sound design and spawn features.
Features
Old versions of locations
The first remarkable thing about this build is the old versions of the maps. It was posted online long before the well-known leak of builds, so many rare versions of locations were seen by the community for the first time. In particular, Cordon features a river flowing across the entire map, same goes for Garbage. Dark Valley is significantly different from later and final versions. It's also the first time fans see the full version of the Rostok factory (a truly massive location representing a full industrial complex, complete with a cinema hall in the admin building) and an old version of the Bar that hadn’t appeared anywhere else before.
Quests
Initially, the build was intended as a platform for debugging A-Life, which is why several quests are available in it.
UI
The build contains two versions of the inventory. The first is opened with the standard key "i", while the second is opened with the key "b".
History
The build was provided by GSC Game World to GAMEINATOR forums user Tyrsa (later known as Loxotron) in December 2008. Later, he created another account, nightmare, and in February 2009 posted several screenshots and a video of the build, but did not release it due to numerous script errors and bugs. Instead, he published 'xrCore' build 1935, Oct 18 2004.
On September 20, 2010, user Zorndaik repacked the build with pre-installed fixes and shared it in a dedicated thread on the same forum (after another user, nike88, started posting builds and videos). On September 21, moderator Tyrsa (aka Loxotron) deleted the thread, stating: whoever obtained the material is the one to share it, not third parties[reference 2]. He then created a new thread, where he re-uploaded the build in its original form (larger size, without the patch; the patch was linked separately)[reference 1] In his message, Tyrsa also explained how he obtained the build, he told about his second account nightmare, and why he deleted the previous thread. Later, he added a link to a repacked version.
