Good to see you, man! I've heard some good things about you in Freedom. What can I do for you?

Loki meeting the player

Loki is the leader of the Freedom detachment stationed in Yanov in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat. He is a cut character in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl.

Background

An unusually young Freedom commander, Loki is in charge of the Yanov station's faction garrison and a close friend of Hawaiian, the station's trader. He says that he knew the old Freedom leaders even before there was no zone, back then when they were regular "hippies". He then met them in the zone later on. He is one of the founding members of Freedom, along with Chekhov, Lingov, and Lukash.

His ceasefire with Duty goes back to the time when Freedom captured the Yanov station. At the same time a blowout started, while a Duty squad was stuck outside of the station, with no shelter nearby. Loki, unwilling to let Duty die such horrible deaths, let them take cover in the station during the emission. Afterwards, Loki negotiated a truce that made the Yanov station a safe zone for both factions, with the Loners acting as a buffer and 'police' force to keep both groups in line.

Regardless, in order to preserve peace, either group will call out the other or deal with men who have broken the rules of the Zone, regardless of faction lines.

In line with previous Freedom leaders, Loki advocates the opening of the Zone to the outside world, though his reasoning is slightly different - whereas Chekhov treated it as a political issue, and Lukash considered it an environmental one, Loki has scientific advancement in mind. He points out the existence of gravitational distortions, spontaneous combustion, and other miraculous happenings in the Zone as evidence that humanity could experience a massive technological leap if they learned to harness the Zone. Perhaps most importantly, Loki's chapter is not particularly keen on continued hostilities with Duty, in most cases only firing once fired upon or after giving their rivals ample warning to leave the area. The local Duty chapter's side of hostilities is more due to their past grievances, not taking Loki's different viewpoint into consideration, while the Ecologists team in the area is more trusting of his men - even allowing Loki to send a detachment to guard them.

Endings

Loki has three possible endings depending on the player's stance in the Duty/Freedom faction war.

Heart of Chornobyl

"It is just an illusion, manufactured in a lab next to the sarcophagus..."
The subject matter of this article was cut from the final version of a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game and should not be considered canon.

Loki, albeit cut from final release, is in Heart of Chornobyl with a major role in one mission. Since Shulga is also in the game's code, it implies that the neutral ending for the Duty and Freedom ending was canon. Loki either stayed with Freedom, or rejoined at a later point.

In the quest A Night Off, Loki and his squad were helping other Freedomers that were leaving the Zone, and went to get supplies for them while leaving them in a building. Skif, accompanied by Thought and Memory, were heavily drugged and hallucinating. They mistakenly thought the stalkers hiding in the building were unarmed zombies and opened fire, killing them to blow off steam. The next day, Loki and his men to returned to a massacre and he angrily confronts a horrified Skif, forcing him kill Thought or Memory. The player can either kill one of the two stalkers, kill Loki and his squad, or defend Loki from Memory.
