Some come to the Zone to make money. Others come looking for miracles. Many just want to find happiness, you know? A way to feel real and alive again. But have you met anyone who was truly happy?

Faust

Faust (Ukr. Фауст) is a character appearing in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl.

Background

Faust initially was a stalker who was in the Zone early into its existence, who one day was unwillingly taken by Project X scientists for the Controller Project. At some point during the project he lost his visual sight, but gained the ability to see the psi-fields in living things. Prof. Dvupalov had worked with him at times, who at one point read him an excerpt from Faust to gauge how he responded to metaphors and imagery, which inadvertently influenced his future speech patterns.[1] Faust was the only known experiment to successfully retain his humanity and become a human Controller.

Faust was then connected to the Monolith Network as per C-Con's request, in which he quickly became fervent believer in the Monolith. He chose to encourage and inspire Monolithians instead of relying on his controller abilities, to the surprise of the scientists.[2] After Strelok killed the C-Con and shut down the X-Network, Faust, like the rest of his faction, lost the connection to the Monolith, but unlike other Monolithians, retained his memories.

Faust was eventually found by Strider sometime after Call of Pripyat, and was one of the founding members of Noontide.[3] While the two got along for a while, their polar opposite ideologies regarding the Monolith made them clash heads from time to time. Faust would begin performing sermons, preaching the word of the Monolith to Noontiders who would listen, and discretely using his controller powers to win them over. This would slowly form a rift in the faction over time.

At one point, he again used his abilities on Lt. Shterev to make him a believer in the Monolith and to perform espionage against Icarus and the Ward as a whole.[4]

Notes

While not implemented, there were three collectable audiologs after defeating Faust. They reveal that Hermann and Faust were in contact, with the latter requesting access to the Monolith database. In exchange, Faust and his men were to collect the scanner that Skif entered the Zone with and kill him, with Hermann actively providing updates on his position. After Skif was "killed" by Nimble, Hermann gave Faust access to the database and requested the scanner back, but Faust refused and told him to retrieve it from the Clear Sky Base instead.
