The Shell is an uncommon artifact featured in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat, and in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl.

Appearances

Shadow of Chernobyl

When wearing this artifact the denaturalization of proteins happens slower. In other words, the flesh is able to endure higher temperatures and burns less. In itself it is an expensive and rare thing.

In-game description

In Shadow of Chernobyl, the Shell mistakenly shares its name with the Battery. The artifact's real name - Shell - is confirmed by the presence of an unused string in the game files (string_table_enc_zone.xml, af-dummy-dummy) which matches with its internal name. Because of this, it is sometimes known as "Flame battery" or "Fire battery".

The Shell gives a +30% bonus in fire protection, and has no downsides whatsoever. This makes it a valuable artifact to use through anomalies, especially when combined. As well, they can enable suit repairing if the player combines four or more of them: four Shells enable suit repair in Burner anomalies, campfires and Pyrogeist attacks.

Acquisition

Clear Sky

This artifact used to be considered trash, devoid of any useful properties. However, scientists recently discovered that if kept in constant contact with the body, it has an excellent stimulating effect on the nervous system, replenishing the bearer's energy. Emits radiation.

In-game description

In Clear Sky, the Shell is an artifact of electrical origin. It provides a good +4 in endurance, although it also gives a large +3 in radiation, forcing the use of a Wrenched or better to counter the radiation effect. The Shell is a good artifact to allow the player to run on longer distances.

Acquisition

Electro anomalies in Yantar, the Red Forest and the Army Warehouses are known to spawn this artifact.

Call of Pripyat

This artifact used to be considered trash, devoid of any useful properties. However, scientists recently discovered that if kept in constant contact with the body, it has an excellent stimulating effect on the nervous system. Emits radiation.

In-game description

The Shell returns in Call of Pripyat, behaving like its Clear Sky counterpart, although the radiation effect was reduced to +2, making the Jellyfish enough to counter its downside. Considering this, it is an effective artifact to boost the player's endurance, especially when they do not wear a suit like the PSZ-9d Duty armor that can be upgraded to boost endurance as well.

The Shell is also part of Beard's artifact orders, meaning one could sell it for a good price. It is generally a good artifact to sell once the rarer Snowflake becomes available, although its usefulness is quite prominent in the early to mid stages of the game.

Acquisition

The Shell may be found in electrical anomaly fields; the Old Service Center in Pripyat spawns one by default.

Heart of Chornobyl

A common artifact found in electro anomalies. Caution: risk of injury even under controlled laboratory conditions. Avoid inserting fingers between the disks!
