Just you keep walking, you'll remember this moment, that's for sure.
Tuna
Tuna (Russian: Вобла / Vobla) is a Loner who appears in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat.
Background
Tuna is a loner who has been operating in the area of Zaton for some time, alongside two friends of his.
Appearances
Call of Pripyat
Personality
He plays the role of a frightened rookie, attempting to get an artifact to save his friend, but his true goal is to profit and “educate” rookies on the true dangers of the Zone, considering people like Degtyarev to be fools. If one takes his lesson seriously and remembers it, he will reward it, saying a lesson remembered is a lesson learned, giving a third of his profits to you. If one is angry at him, he will still consider you to be a fool.
Biography
Tuna and his two other companions appear outside the dredge station after the Altered Wheel artifact is obtained during the side mission Strange Phenomenon. He asks the player to give him the artifact, claiming that it has healing capabilities that could save his friend from a life-threatening sickness that medicine can’t help. Tuna's story, under heavier scrutiny, includes some interesting inconsistencies. He claims he needs the artifact to heal his friend, but it only irradiates, and he claims to have stumbled into a chemical anomaly while trying to get to the artifact This would be impossible since the dredge wheel is not a chemical-based artifact nor is there a chemical anomaly nearby. Although, it is unlikely one will look at the properties of the artifact or care about the type of anomalies nearby, so one may be fooled quite easily.
Fate
Giving him the artifact makes him run straight to the Skadovsk, where he can be seen giving it to Beard and claiming the reward for finding it. When confronted, he will claim Degtyarev is a fool who must be educated. He views himself as a teacher, and if you admit your mistake, he will give you 1k RU to buy a drink on him. If he is threatened, or told that he broke the rules, he will either mock you or tell you to go away depending on what you say. After this encounter, he will meet up with his crew outside and roam Zaton, allowing the player to engage them in revenge if wanted.
If one refuses to give him the artifact or claims that they haven't seen it, his companions draw their weapons and give the player a last chance to give it to him peacefully. If it is given to him, he runs to Skadovsk like the previous route. If the player still refuses to give it to him, Tuna will riflebutt the player while he and and his friends will open fire, likely resulting in death as the punch is unavoidable and stun locks you as you are shot at. The only way to counter his attack is to take him out before he can pull it off. An optimal way to survive this encounter is not to put your weapon away in the first place. They will not open fire unless you attempt to escape, allowing for a stalemate where you can use your knife or any other weapon to remove the blockage blocking the stash inside the dredge station, go inside after removing the blockage blocking, and engage the group. If one survives, they will be able to give the artifact to Beard.
Related missions
- Strange Phenomenon: Tuna will attempt to claim the Altered Wheel from the player, claiming it has healing properties then later on trying to forcefully take it away from them.
Trivia
- Giving him the artifact and killing him just before he reaches Skadovsk won't interfere with the mission in any way, and his team will still be neutral to the player so long as Tuna is not killed within visible distance of them. Tuna's companions will remain at the Dredge Station forever.
- Tuna is the only NPC across the original trilogy to use a melee attack in combat.
- Tuna and his companions can be killed stealthily with some hidden tricks. Shoot the man furthest away with any silenced weapon that you have, kill him when he comes out, go to the middle deck, throw a grenade through the leftmost window twice, and then peek around the exit where Tuna is and shoot him. You just saved yourself a very annoying encounter.
- If the player somehow manages to escape the Dredge Station without talking to him and later comes back to the station, the player can give Tuna the artifact even after it has been sold to Beard. In this case, the game will crash when Tuna attempts to show the artifact to Beard, as he doesn't have it in his inventory.
- If Tuna sells the artifact to Beard, then he will go to Snag's table and remain there until the player talks to him again, after what he and his companions will travel across Zaton like normal stalkers.
- Occasionally, when there is a large number of stalkers gathered at the Skadovsk, a stalker may also stand at his spot, which will result in the other stalker clipping through him. This only happens if the player doesn't talk to Tuna again after finishing the mission.
- His body, like his companions' bodies, will never disappear after his death.
